Welcome to the 2018-19 school year, which will begin on Wednesday August 15, 2018 (early release day 12:15).   I will be  learning a lot about your student the first few weeks of class, therefore it is only fair that I tell you a little about me now. I received my MA in Education (Specialization in Best Practices) April 2015 and my California Credential Both Single Subject General Science (2011) / Multiple Subject with a business amendment (2005) through National University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Management with an option in accounting from California State University Los Angeles in 1997. I'm an enthusiastic member of the science and business community who whole heartily believes in Ivy's mission of creating life-long learners not just high school graduates. I teach the importance of life-long learning by example; this past Spring I completed a California Environmental Education Foundation course at U C Davis and over the summer I attended a solar energy program at the Solar Schoolhouse Summer Institute for Educators in Sebastopol, CA (The Rahus Institute). I have been an active member of COSEE West, a UCLA / USC marine science program, since 2007. I have worked with the University of Boulder Colorado for three summers on environmental issues such as climate change and water quality. I have had the privilege of mentoring the ProjectEcho teachers in entrepreneurship for the past two years.  Our science team has competed in the UCLA ProjecEcho Business Plan competition in 2014, 2015, and 2017 bring home the 1st and 3rd place trophies in Growth Based Business 2015  and technology 2017. Ivy's science teams have participated in the USC QuikScience competition in 2010, 2011, and 2013; claiming third place in 2010 and 2013.

I will treat  you and your student with respect and kindness and expect the same in return. Please feel free to email me at anytime gussc@ivyacademia.com. I look forward to working with you, your student, and your family in the upcoming year.
