Dear Parents/Guardians, Your child will be taking the California Standards Test in April, 2011. New state testing regulations mandate that students at different levels take different tests. The following test-taking skills will help your child do his or her best on the upcoming test. Please take a moment to review these test-taking skills with your child. Preparing for Testing: ~ Get a good night’s rest. ~ Have a proper breakfast. ~ Arrive at school on time. Come to school everyday during testing. ~ Start the day off calmly. Students who arrive at school upset because of a family argument or problem will have difficulty concentrating during the test. ~ Schedule medical or other appointments after the testing period. During Testing: ~ Before the test starts, listen carefully to the instructions. If you do not understand, raise your hand and ask questions. ~ When the test starts, work calmly and mark answers carefully. Use the test-taking skills you have recently learned. ~ When you are finished, check your answers and erase any marks that are not your answer choices. ~ Remain calm if you do not know an answer. Re-read the question and try to eliminate wrong answer choices. ~ Go back over the test, and answer any skipped or omitted items. Remind your children: ~ To do their very best and try their hardest during the ENTIRE test. ~ Some questions will be hard, and they may not know the answers to ALL the questions. ~ But, they will know the answers to MANY of the questions. Thank you for taking the time to review these test taking tips with your students. Remember to be ON TIME and get a good night’s sleep and have a healthy breakfast! Sincerely, Ivy Administration
