IGATE Program / College Courses  (Middle & High School)

Starting this year, middle and high school students may opt for a special honors program.  This program places gifted or highly qualified students in the same class. They face a more rigorous curriculum.  In order to qualify, students must take a placement test, have an A or B in the subject, score proficient or advanced in STAR testing, have good attendance and citizenship, and receive the recommendation of their teacher.

IGATE is a two-year honors preparatory program that leads into the UC approved Honors system.  After two years of acceptable scores in IGATE classes, students are eligible to be rolled into UC-approved Honors courses in the eleventh grade.  Ivy will then offer Honors and AP courses to 10th-12th grade students.  The University of California recognizes approved Community College courses that are CSU (California State University) and UC transferable, and they are weighted as Honors courses for high school students.

In addition, Ivy Academia students are afforded the opportunity to take a number of college courses each year, on Ivy’s campus, taught by the local community colleges.  Students must be approved by Ivy Academia and are required to pass the entrance exam administered by the college.

For further details, please see the College Counselor (high school) or principal (middle school).

Academic Activity Eligibility Policy  (High School)

Per CIF Rule 204, if a student earns a GPA (grade point average) of less than 2.00 on a grading period report card he or she will be ineligible for all activities for the next grading period.

If the student earns a GPA of less than 2.00 on the next grading report card, he or she will continue to be academically ineligible to participate in all activities.  He or she will then remain ineligible until there is a grading period report card with a GPA of 2.00 or above.

A student on academic probation regains eligibility if the grading period report card following probation has a GPA of 2.00 or better.

If a second semester report card has a GPA of below 2.00, making a probationary student ineligible for fall activities, such student may, with the written permission of the Site Administrator, repeat courses in summer school to regain eligibility for September. Improved grades in the same courses replace existing grades for purpose of eligibility calculation only. Grades in other courses are averaged into the semester GPA with existing grades. Students with academic difficulties may be assigned a mentor teacher, who will closely monitor that student.

Students may be placed on an academic contract regardless of GPA at the discretion of the administration.

Recognition/Awards/Honor Roll  (Middle & High School)

Our middle and high school students have a formal recognition program.  We have semester honor rolls, membership in the National Honor Society, the California Scholarship Federation, the UC Talent Search program, and the end of the year Night of the Stars, where students are recognized for academic achievement, grades, citizenship, effort, leadership, service, improvement and other areas.

For elementary grades, we will have regular weekly and monthly recognition in such areas as effort, citizenship, high-quality homework and other achievement.

Honor rolls for middle and high school students are computed each semester, and appropriate certificates issued.  Students must have good citizenship and no Fs.  For the Honor Roll, students must have a 3.0 GPA; for the Blue and White Honor Roll, a 3.5 GPA and no more than one C; for the President’s Honor Roll, students must have a 4.0 GPA.

The Wall of Fame is for students in middle or high school.  Again, students must have good citizenship and middle school students must have a GPA of 4.0.  High School students may have a GPA of less than 4.0, but must be active in a school activity or sport, and/or be an active leader or volunteer.

NHS, CSF and the UC Talent Search  (Middle & High School)

Middle and high school students are eligible for membership into several prestigious organizations.

The National Honor Society (NHS) is open to high school students who have a GPA of 3.5 or above, show enthusiasm for scholarship and display the traits of leadership, service and good citizenship and character.  The members are voted in by the faculty.  The National Junior Honor Society is for middle school students with the same criteria.

The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) for high school students identifies and encourages students to carry a challenging course load.  Eligibility is based on a formula of grades, but an F disqualifies a student, and students must have As and Bs in their classes.  Again, the California Junior Scholarship Federation is for middle school students.

At graduation, members of these two organizations have seals affixed to their diplomas and are eligible for other items worn with graduation gowns.  Colleges and universities look with great favor upon students who are members of one or both of these organizations.
